Chaco Mohler and Todd Jackson are North Tahoe residents who have launched the Great Trail Race. Friends for over three decades, the two were interested in creating a project with multiple benefits to the Tahoe/Truckee community, including fundraising for worthy causes.
Past races between Tahoe City and Truckee have included “Where the Hell is Truckee” and “TNT,” but it seemed to Mohler and Jackson that both runners and mountain bikers would enjoy competing on this classic route as an end-of-summer celebration. Then through conversations with Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue (TNSAR) team members and directors, it became apparent that the time was right to create a warm weather version of The Great Ski Race as a way to produce more reliable funding for TNSAR.
Jackson is founder and President of Big Blue Adventure, who will produce the event. Big Blue has extensive experience creating and/or producing events in the region, including Tahoe Trail Running Series, Lake Tahoe Triathlon, XTERRA and Donner Lake Triathlon. Mohler is a writer and publisher and helping publicize this first annual race.
